Everything you need to get MenuBarShelf working — plus a few notes about the parts that are still experimental.

System requirements

  • macOS 13 Ventura or later
  • Apple Silicon (M-series) or Intel
  • Roughly 5 MB of disk space

Getting started

  1. Open MenuBarShelf from Applications.
  2. Click the MenuBarShelf icon in your menu bar.
  3. When prompted, click "Allow Accessibility" and approve MenuBarShelf in System Settings.
  4. Click any row in the popover to activate the corresponding menu bar item. ⌘‑drag rows to reorder.

Frequently asked questions

Why does MenuBarShelf need Accessibility access?

macOS doesn't expose a public API to read or click another app's menu bar items. MenuBarShelf reaches them through the same Accessibility surface that VoiceOver and Voice Control use, entirely on your Mac.

Do I need a Mac with a notch?

No. MenuBarShelf is also useful when you have more menu bar items than fit on screen, or when you just want a single, search‑friendly place to reach them.

Some menu bar items aren't appearing.

A small number of apps draw their menu bar items in ways that macOS doesn't expose to other apps. Click "Refresh" in the popover, and email us with the missing app's name so we can investigate.

How do I uninstall?

Drag MenuBarShelf out of Applications to the Trash. To clean up the leftover permission entry, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and remove MenuBarShelf from the list.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. MenuBarShelf is fully offline. It never connects to the internet on its own.
